There is currently a lack of women and underrepresented community members in policing. As a campus police department, we serve one of the most diverse communities in Oregon and the traditional recruiting methods aren’t enough to create and sustain a diverse and inclusive workforce.
Cadets are paid, part-time positions at UOPD.
Policy Advisory Workgroup
The UOPD is the only campus police department in the country that includes our students in reviewing department policy and helping to create new policy.
The role of the Policy Advisory Workgroup is to provide informed recommendations on police policies and practices. The police chief relies on this multi-disciplinary approach to ensure all department policy meets local, state, and federal law, while remaining consistent with the needs of the community.
UOPD Complaint Process
University of Oregon faculty, staff, and students play a key role in reviewing complaints against UOPD as members of the community Complaint Resolution Committee.
Ride Along
UO students may take part in a ride along with their campus police or community service officers.
UOPD Gives Back
The UOPD often partners with student organizations to help the campus and Lane County community. Programs have included to providing care packages to the needy, and “Chuck it For Charity” which collects student furniture during move out and donates it to local charities.
UO students are encouraged to bring us their ideas for collaborative giving.
